Lyham Road, London

Based near South Clapham, this large school and grounds to residential conversion gave way to many empty units with the potential to be converted further into contemporary living spaces.

We worked closely with the clients to produce the brief: A 2 bedroom space which took advantage of the large school hall windows and the view over south London. During the design process the relationship we had with our clients, on and off site, enabled us to communicate and overcome design issues quickly.

The unit acquired was sited in the apex of the main school hall and so we utilized the additional vertical space as much as possible.

As in a new conversion the freedom to install services, where required and necessary was an advantage so Barnes Design concentrated firstly on creating the spaces; kitchen area, living area, sleeping areas. This resulted in a unified space which not only utilized all the available space but enabled the client to achieve all the elements they required in their new home and in time for their first child.
